The Phone Call

Halfway through the church board meeting, one of the members received a phone call.

"So, how's dad now?"
"Oh, he's fine. And sensitive..."
"Why?"

Noticing the stares, she excused herself, but within hearing distance—

When, she blurted, "How did you know they hurt? Oh, you mean... you touched his balls?!!"
This mishap has been told to us by my brother, the minister of said church, on the night we gathered to celebrate our father's birthday. A good reminder to be wary of taking private calls anywhere.. ~Dette

Walk Away

It's Saturday! I had an unusually playful feeling this morning, not like the past few days. I took an early bath and a steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee. Then I began playing a few chords in the piano while humming to a song that's been playing in my head all night. I remember writing the first stanza to this song several years ago. I just added a chorus and second stanza today. But my fingers froze in the early morning mist. Mornings and New Beginnings

Waking up earlier than usual, I instinctively unhooked the guitar hanging above my bed and began strumming a familiar tune that's been stuck in my head all night. The somber acoustic tune quickly fills my room, each note fading into the distant sound of birds singing and hushed blowing of the wind through the trees … I played on until my fingers hurt. Then it hit me. Déjà vu . A light, giddy feeling swelled within me … a familiar feeling I've had a few years back. A memory. Like it just happened yesterday. And I held on to the feeling for a moment. Ever had those rare moments when an emotion suddenly overwhelms your senses and all you can do is surrender to its powerful grip and lay down your defenses? That feeling. All of it. With a curious mix of awkwardness and delight at this thought, I realized what it was: the four-letter word that breaks even the most stubborn stoic. Love.
