Clueless

Three girls were giggling in the elevator. It was their usual bantering.

To top off one girl's teasing, she blurted out "you bitch!" turning around as the elevator door opened. And there a clueless guy froze on the spot, shocked.

The girls stopped cold. Then, they were laughing even harder.
This is my first attempt at writing a mini saga, which, I have been meaning to take a shot at. A mini saga, invented by Brian Aldiss, is a story told in exactly 50 words. Writing mini sagas is a good exercise on trimming down "unnecessary" words to get down to your main idea or thought. Hope you enjoyed this one because I mean to write one everyday..

Walk Away

It's Saturday! I had an unusually playful feeling this morning, not like the past few days. I took an early bath and a steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee. Then I began playing a few chords in the piano while humming to a song that's been playing in my head all night. I remember writing the first stanza to this song several years ago. I just added a chorus and second stanza today. But my fingers froze in the early morning mist. Here is...             "Walk Away" When I looked back I saw you standing there So near, your eyes seem to tell me so— I tried to get closer, Reached out to touch you But then you were gone (So I) I turned around I was tryin' to find you— But felt only tears here in my eyes You know how it hurts me so To walk away from you Goodbye, Do we really have to learn this word And try to hide the pain it can bring? Mornings and New Beginnings

Waking up earlier than usual, I instinctively unhooked the guitar hanging above my bed and began strumming a familiar tune that's been stuck in my head all night. The somber acoustic tune quickly fills my room, each note fading into the distant sound of birds singing and hushed blowing of the wind through the trees … I played on until my fingers hurt. Then it hit me. Déjà vu . A light, giddy feeling swelled within me … a familiar feeling I've had a few years back. A memory. Like it just happened yesterday. And I held on to the feeling for a moment. Ever had those rare moments when an emotion suddenly overwhelms your senses and all you can do is surrender to its powerful grip and lay down your defenses? That feeling. All of it. With a curious mix of awkwardness and delight at this thought, I realized what it was: the four-letter word that breaks even the most stubborn stoic. Love.
